Brewing Notes: Brewed with qwak.
Mashed at 152 for 60 minutes in 16 qt water
Drained first runnings, added 3.5g of sparge water & stirred. let sit 10 minutes. Drained sparge water to yield ~6g @ 1.042.
Added random things to bring up the gravity :) Jaggery, DME. Also added maltodextrin to account for body lost by Jaggery.
What was the reason for such low gravity? My guess is that it was a combination of the high water:grain ratio (~1.6 qt/1 lb) and the speed of the sparge. I opened the spigot wide open. Grains still had a slightly sweet taste after the sparge. Next time I've got to remember that slow & steady wins the race.
Activity was noted a few hours later and by 24 hours the airlock was going mad.
