Brewing Notes: Mash @ 149
Tasting Notes: Sample 6/17/06
Nose: grapefruit, mango, various citrus goodness. While nice, it wouldn't hurt to double up on the dry hops next time around. It smells really rindey - like it is going to be quite bitter.
Appearance: This sample is from the bottom of the bottle and is reasonably cloudy. The first glass was only slightly hazy. Thin pure white head sits atop a tan/peach body.
Flavor: Citrus attack - oranges, mango, lemon, some rind flavors. There is some fruit there, some acidity. The finish is quite dry with some nice lightly toasted malt notes. Next time I would mash just a bit higher (153?) for a hint more sweetness to compliment the hops. The other option is of course to boil longer, resulting in some caramel flavors - dunno if that would be right here.
Body: I wanted it nice and thin and it is. Maybe 153 is a bit high? Try 151?
Overall: Very nice - I would like to do a number of single hop IPAs.. bit first I've gotta brew a slightly tweaked version of this. Bitterness is spot on - just a bit more malt sweetness and a bigger nose and mmmmm.
